New Gallery in zenscapes: zen garden study
This series is a meditation on Zen Calligraphy. At the risk of oversimplifying things, to write Zen calligraphy masterfully, you must empty your mind and, more or less, let the characters flow. Thought, emotions and expectations should not matter. My approach to these particular images is to capture the lines, curves, and textures of the rocks and find the character that resides in them by freely dodging (lightening) and burning (darkening) the details and negative space of the image, reducing the landscape to its most minimal expression– all the while trying my best to just “simply do” and not think or expect or analyze what I am doing.
